COOS BAY, Ore. – There are big plans in the works for a historic building in downtown Coos Bay.
Built back in the 1920s, the old city hall is an art deco-style building that’s been vacant for several years.
New owner Greg Nichols says he plans to turn it into a high-quality antique mall and a flapper-themed coffee shop. The top floor will be home to what he says is the largest art deco collection in the country.
Nichols says he hopes to bring a piece of Coos Bay’s history back to life.
“This building had marriage licenses, the police station was here, the courthouse was here, the jail; there’s still the old jail cells in the back of the building. So there’s a lot of history in this building,” Nichols says, “so we’re looking forward to bringing it back.”
Nichols is still looking for interested antique vendors.
Old City Hall Antiques is set to open mid-August.
